Be Careful With Cheap HDTV Televisions

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Buying a new HDTV is easy but you have to know what you are up against if you really want to get a good product. Those on a tight budget are up to an even more difficult task. There are two types of cheap HDTV sets: those made by cheap brands and those that are budget versions of sets from known brands. Of these two buying one from a brands that its main objective is to sell cheap televisions is the riskiest. Many of these companies manufacture their televisions using low quality components that are cheaper and that are notorious for malfunctioning in a short period of time.

A lot of people have bought TV sets from these so called “budget brands” only to find that not only the product starts to act weird and stops working entirely in a few short years. Have you ever bought a toaster or any home appliance from a cheap brand only to replace in a year because it stopped working all of the sudden? The same thing happens to some cheap HDTV sets made by brands with a questionable reputation.

The best thing that a consumer can do is to do some research before giving such products a try in order to avoid buying low quality items that need to be replaced in a relatively short time. In the world of high definition televisions the best thing is to stick to known manufacturers that have years of experience and that have a good reputation of delivering quality products. A reputation that can only be earned by having millions of happy customers. Still, even if you opt to buy from a known brand you should still read reviews because there are products that are sometimes full of defects and that are made by known manufacturers. There is always one model that comes out with some weird defect that has to be taken out of production quickly so be careful and read first especially if you see a clearance sell or a set with an unbelievable rebate.

Getting Groovy With The Kindle

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

That’s right, I am going to buy a Kindle. It is either that or a new bookcase and the new Kindle 3 is cheaper. I read so many books and have so many bookshelves that it is no longer even remotely funny. My house is more books that walls.

This is why I am getting the new Kindle 3. Having just found out that I can store 3,600 books on the device there is no way I am going to buy another paperback. The new Kindle definitely seems like it is more than worth the money. The fact that the price is now so much lower than it ever was but the technology is even better simply makes it the best possible choice I could make for an e-book reader.

What I also really love about the Kindle is the fact that I can get 1.8 million books for nothing. All books before the 1920′s are out of copyright and they are available to download for free with the new Kindle, that is simply amazing news and an offer that I simply cannot pass up. Imagine being able to read all of the old classics on my new reader for nothing. That alone really makes it amazing value for money without the fact that I can store all my new purchases on my Kindle really does make it the most sensible choice that I can make right now.

I do love having a paperback in my hand but from talking to friends and actually looking at the Kindle, and that is the old version there is no doubt that I am going to be more than happy with the new version. It really does look like you are reading from a real book and I am in no doubt that the new Kindle 3 is going to be an even better reading experience.

So Apple came up with their latest creating that is revolutionnary in the business if information technology. Today people are buying computers by the specs and Apple has always been aiming to remove this from the minds of the consumers and instead try to provide the customers with products that offer them solutions and performance, instead of focusing that there is the latest and greatest hardware. Although Apple has been able to make some great deals with their suppliers and are actually selling computers with great hardware also.

Notebooks were a huge hit when they first came out because they offered mobility – unfortunately the performance wasn’t great and that was something that Apple was indeed able to tackle with their macbooks because their operating system OS X was able to run lightweight and fast even on slower computers. After dominating the markets with their iPod mp3-players they started to also dominate the laptop industry as their products offered elegant design and outstanding performance. They are definitely something that you can take out of your suitcase at a public place without being embarrassed. To give you a good idea about the performance of their equipment, the Macbook Air was announced as being the fastest laptop ever to run Windows Vista. The engineers have been able to select components that support each other in a manner that it would be the best laptop overall out there. Needless to say that it is also very lightweight and energy efficient.

Based on their experience with mobile devices Apple started to spend some effort in developing a soon to be revolutionnary mobile phone , the iPhone. It turned the markets upside down as people were no-longer looking at anything else than the iPhone which was running a version of their operating system specifically designed for the iPhone. This made it possible for the phone to be used like a computer and you could install new applications from the AppStore which has become one of the best money makers for Apple so far. Their incredible touch screen created dozens of imitations from large mobile phone manufacturers, which didn’t notice that it wasn’t the touch screen that made the iPhone so popular, but the incredible performance and the ease of use.

Another type of laptop just emerged – the handheld computers. These were small, usually equipped with a 7″ screen and a keyboard, and Apple wanted to make their own product for these markets, but instead of trying to make a smaller laptop they chose to redesign the whole consept. For now manufacturers of handheld computers were just shrinking a regular laptop, but Apple looked at what people really want from a device like this, and produced the iPad. After receiving a lot of criticism the iPad turned out to be one of the biggest sellers ever, selling over one million units in a little over three weeks after it was published. Since the iPad is priced at $499 it has made people to think where they could get a free iPad.

Droid by Motorola

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

There is a lot of debate going on around the online gadget and mobile phone experts about the Droid by Motorola being the thing that will put Motorola back on the map. It is supposed to be the answer to Apples iPhone – coming a bit late – and their breakthrough to the smartphone markets.

The hype is getting larger as the release date of the Droid by Motorola is approaching – this is the hype that was lacking when they released their previous smartphone Cliq, that did not become that big of a product that they were expecting.

Droid runs on the Android OS which Motorola is backing quite a lot on. Unlike the iPhone it can do what all of the other Android smartphones are doing – multitasking. This has been one of the biggest lacks in Apples products. For someone using the phone for business purposes it is important to be able to have multpile programs running at the same time.

The Droid by Motorola does not rely on a touch screen, unlike many of its competitors, but it boasts a full sized QWERTY keyboard which slides from the backside of the phone – it will provide a more laptop like feel compared to the touch screen phones. Compared to its strongest competitors there are some same looks as the iPhone, but with a more blocky feel.

Besides just a computer like feel, it has a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a regular 3,5mm headphone jack. The size of the screen is a respectable 3,7″ and weighing just under 170grams it is a bit heavier than most of its competitors. The most important difference is that the Android Webkit has HTML 5 and Flash 10, which are going to make flash websites accessible with this tool.

The Droid by Motorola uses a microSD card and comes with a 16GB and can be boosted as high as 32GB.
