Outdoor Patio Umbrella Lighting

Patio umbrellas are known for providing much needed shade to hot patios and yards. Their thick fabric canopies filter out visible and UV light to cool an area by a noticeable amount. Various features like tilting canopies and hand cranks make these shades the best around. What some consumers do not realize is that patio umbrellas have a secondary purpose when equipped with a simple modification. Umbrella lights are a handy and viable way to provide illumination to a backyard space. Umbrellas such as these are ideal mounting places for such lights because they already reside around high traffic areas.

Patio umbrella lights are currently manufactured in two basic models, one that clips onto the pole and another which clips onto the umbrella underside. Both are interesting and unexpected, but to choose the right one you must determine what type of patio umbrella you own.
Cantilever umbrellas can currently only work with a single type of patio umbrella light. String clip on lights can be attached to each rod underneath the umbrella. In each set, you get approximately six to eight different string lights. Each string has its own set of clips which are used to attach them to each rod. Once activated, the lights will shine prominently, creating pockets of star-like lights which shine down below. This functional light source can be used to enjoy your patio in the dark.

If you have a standard type umbrella which has a support pole, you can use what is referred to as a disc umbrella light. Disc lights are small light modules which clip around the pole tightly. They can be removed easily and moved up or down the pole to adjust the light. These inconspicuous light sources can create a remarkable amount of light thanks to powerful LED bulbs. The standard light bulb color for these systems is white.
